Police Seize Fentanyl, Cocaine in Walkerton Raid; Two Facing Trafficking Charges
A Brockton search warrant led to the seizure of drugs valued at $264,000, with two people charged and released pending court dates.
Two Brockton residents are facing drug trafficking charges following a police search that resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs valued at approximately $264,000.
According to Ontario Provincial Police, officers executed a search warrant on April 8 at a residence on Orange Street in the Municipality of Brockton.
The investigation was led by the South Bruce OPP Community Street Crime Unit, with support from multiple regional units.
Police say the search resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and fentanyl, along with Canadian currency and items described as offence-related property, including weigh scales and cellular phones.
Charges and court dates
Andreas Charalambous, 58, and Verna Riel, 58, have each been charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Charalambous was held for a bail hearing and later released, with a court appearance scheduled for May 20, 2026. Riel was also released and is scheduled to appear in court April 22, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton.
While police described the seizure as “significant,” few additional details were released about the investigation.
Authorities did not specify how long the investigation had been underway, how much of each substance was seized, or whether the drugs were believed to be linked to a broader distribution network. Police also did not indicate whether further arrests are expected.
In a statement, South Bruce OPP Detachment Staff Sergeant Lynn McNichol said the investigation “represents a significant disruption to the illegal drug trade within our communities.”
The investigation involved officers from the South Bruce OPP, as well as Community Street Crime Units from Wellington County and Grey-Bruce, along with the West Region Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the South Bruce OPP or Crime Stoppers.
