Details Emerging About Multi-Vehicle Collision in Port Elgin and Heavy Police Presence Nearby
South Bruce OPP and Saugeen Shores Police asked motorists to avoid areas in Port Elgin and near North Bruce as an active investigation with heavy police presence was underway.

West Region OPP announced that the increased police presence ended south of Port Elgin between Side Road 10 and J & I Side Road as of 7:30 p.m. They stated that there is no threat to public safety.

As 6:48 p.m., Saugeen Shores Police announced on social media:
“On February 21st 2026 Saugeen Shores Police responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Goderich Street and Gustavus Street in the Town of Port Elgin.
This is an active investigation between the Saugeen Shores Police and the Ontario Provincial Police. There are no concerns for public safety. No further details will be released at this time.”
6:20 p.m. Update
Saugeen Shores Police announced that as of 6:00 p.m., the intersection of Gustavus Street and Goderich Street in Port Elgin has reopened.
Owen Sound Current contacted the Ontario Provincial Police seeking clarification on several details circulating online, including whether anyone was in custody, reports of injuries related to a multi-vehicle collision at Goderich and Gustavus, and speculation about a possible police pursuit.
In response, OPP stated: “This investigation is in the early stages. Additional information will be provided when it is available.”
Police have not released further details at this time.
OPP West Region announced a heavy police presence and road closure on the Bruce-Saugeen Townline at 4:44 p.m. on Saturday, as social media users reported accounts of a major incident potentially involving a police chase has taken place.
“Bruce-Saugeen Townline is fully closed south of Port Elgin between Side Road 10 and J & I Side Road. A heavy police presence is in the area. Motorists should plan an alternate route,” read the post, shared to the OPP West Region account with the South Bruce OPP identifier.
Saugeen Shores Police quickly reposted the OPP notice and added a second location — the area of Gustavus Street and Goderich Street — to avoid.
That notice stated there is no danger to the public.
