Peace Ribbon Project Brings 600 Square Feet of Community Art to Downtown Trees
Artcures' "It's a Wrap – Peace ribbon Project" wraps trees across downtown Owen Sound in fabric hand-designed by more than 150 residents of all ages.
More than 150 local residents have wrapped trees across downtown Owen Sound in hand-designed fabric as part of a community art installation titled “It’s a Wrap – Peace Ribbon Project.”
The installation covers over 600 square feet with fabric wrapped in patterns, colours and messages of hope. It was led by Artcures, a local arts organization, and supported by a grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce.
The project invited people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute their own designs, producing a collective work the organizers say reflects the spirit, diversity and imagination of the city.
“This installation proves that art doesn’t just belong in galleries — it belongs in the streets, in our public spaces, and in the hands of our community,” organizers said. “Every ribbon represents someone’s voice, someone’s creativity, and someone’s belief that art can bring people together.”
Artcures is planning its next community installation and is inviting residents to participate, donate and help shape the project.
Wrapped trees are on view at various downtown locations, including one at Owen Sound City Hall. A QR code posted on-site directs supporters who wish to contribute to future projects. More information is available at Artcures.ca.
