Owen Sound Police Seize Fentanyl and Cash, Two Charged
A 45-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man face multiple charges after OSPS executed a warrant at a 2nd Avenue East home Thursday, turning up fentanyl and cash.
Owen Sound police have charged two people after searching a home in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East on June 25.
The Owen Sound Police Service says officers from its Drug Enforcement Unit and Criminal Investigations Branch executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at the residence. Officers seized 36 grams of fentanyl and more than $7,000 in cash they allege are proceeds of crime. The service puts the street value of the fentanyl at about $14,800.
A 45-year-old Owen Sound woman and a 73-year-old Owen Sound man each face three charges: possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl), possession of a Schedule I substance (methamphetamine), and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. Their names were not released.
Police did not say how much methamphetamine officers found, or list it among the items seized, despite laying a possession charge tied to the drug.
However, the arrest announcement did state, “The Owen Sound Police Service remains committed to disrupting the trafficking of illicit drugs within our community. The seizure of fentanyl is particularly significant given the devastating impact this substance continues to have on individuals, families, and communities across Ontario.”
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound. Police did not say when those hearings were scheduled.
None of the charges has been tested in court.
Police asked anyone with information about drug trafficking or other criminal activity to contact the Owen Sound Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
