Two Charged With Trafficking Fentanyl & Meth After OPP Search Highway 6 & 10 Home
Grey Bruce OPP seized suspected fentanyl, meth and codeine in a May search warrant on Highway 6 and 10 and charged two with trafficking and weapons offences.
Two Meaford residents face drug trafficking and weapons charges after Grey Bruce OPP seized suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine from a home in the municipality last month. Police say the arrests followed a drug trafficking investigation that began in March.
The charges have not been proven in court.
On May 29, shortly after 6 a.m., officers from the OPP's Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit, the Grey Bruce detachment and the West Region OPP canine unit executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence on Highway 6 and 10 in the Municipality of Meaford. Two people inside were arrested.
According to the OPP, officers seized about 25 grams of suspected fentanyl, about 20 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a number of suspected codeine pills. Police estimated the drugs had a street value of roughly $5,700 and said they also seized about $1,300 in property they identified as offence-related.
Jason Malcolm, 45, of Meaford, is charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, for fentanyl and methamphetamine. He also faces four Criminal Code weapons charges: two counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
Savanna McEachern, 38, of Meaford, faces the same two trafficking charges and two counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Both appeared in bail court in Owen Sound on May 29. McEachern was released on bail and is scheduled to return to court July 9. Malcolm remained in custody and is scheduled to appear again June 5.
