'Owen' 12"x16" Oil on canvas panel, by Elaine Doy (reprinted with permission). Learn more about the artist’s inspiration here.

There’s a City Council meeting tonight, and staff will present your elected representatives with several important updates for their consideration.

The long-awaited downtown security cameras staff report is in, with a recommendation for a 3-year pilot project.

The staff report Council requested on a Town Hall-style meeting this year is out, too.

Staff’s vision for the event is “a community open house” where the public can meet with City staff, ask questions, and learn about City services and operations.

There would be no stage, no panel discussion, and no open Q&A with City Council. Rather, 18 City departments would send a manager and/or staff person to answer questions about the services they provide, each at its own table. Council members would circulate throughout the room to “connect” with community members.

The $2,000 budget requested does not include staff time for preparation or attendance at the event.
