City Council’s decision to add Centennial Tower repairs to the multi-year capital plan as a $265,000 unfunded project stirred up a bit of a debate on local social media this week.
In case you missed the decision, it came out of a Special Meeting of Council on Monday morning:
Council ultimately decided that creating an accessible path to the tower is not a priority at this time. The source(s) of funding for the approx. $265,000 needed to make it safe to reopen to the public is not yet known.
Residents have mixed opinions on whether the project should be funded by the City, with some campaigning for its preservation as a historic monument and others calling for the tower to be torn down.
