In his December address to Council, Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy said, “Everything that we have been working on seems to have started to come together in 2025.”

In today’s letter to the editor, Owen Sound resident David McLeish challenges that optimism and asks what the numbers really show.

Drawing on Census data, population modelling, and community need indicators such as OSHaRE meal counts and food bank usage, McLeish argues that the picture painted in the mayor’s update omits the most pressing realities facing residents today.

If Council is going to celebrate planning milestones, he suggests, they should also confront the growing signs of hardship — and commit to real action.
