Monday night’s council meeting was packed with information, and we’re still sorting through it.
One item that wasn’t on the agenda caused a great deal of debate and begs the question: When it is appropriate to waive the notice that gives other councilors time to prepare for votes and make informed decisions?
A majority of council (6-3) decided Councilor Brock Hamley’s motion to cancel the Remuneration Task Force met the criteria, and that the issue couldn’t wait until the next meeting.
The three-part sequence in which Hamley seemed guided by Mayor Ian Boddy and Councilor Marion Koepke culminated in a heated debate on the final motion, a refusal to add friendly amendments that would leave the door open for further discussion in this council term, and a recorded vote.
