Good morning and welcome back, Readers!

Municipal election nominations are open, and candidates are starting to step forward. These are your neighbours asking to sit at the table on your behalf — to weigh in on how property tax dollars are spent, which roads get fixed, what happens to community parks, and, for trustees, how local schools are run.

Four people have declared their interest in leading the City of Owen Sound as Mayor: Ray Botten, Carol Merton, Richard Thomas, and Andrii Zvorygin.

Those interested in sitting around the council table, however, have been markedly quieter. Meghan Robertson is the only declared candidate for council to date. If anyone is interested in the Deputy Mayor seat, they haven’t yet made it formal.

Meaford and Georgian Bluffs officially have one candidate each for Mayor (though the informal list on the Meaford website hasn’t been updated since May 8). Across Grey and Bruce counties, candidate declarations to lead lower-tier municipalities are trickling in.

You can find those lists on each municipality’s website, and we’ve compiled the links to all of them in our 2026 Municipal Election Guide.

The guide also breaks down what mayors, councillors, and school board trustees actually decide, how to confirm you're on the voters' list, and how voting will work in your specific municipality — methods vary across Grey and Bruce, from internet and telephone voting to mail-in ballots.
