Surveillance footage of a second brazen theft at their Harrison Park donation booth has prompted Owen Sound Festival of Northern Lights to take action. See more under Local News.

Alongside all that ice and snow, December tends to usher in a good deal of reflection, too. Whatever our beliefs or celebrations, there’s an inevitable slowdown at Christmas time, followed promptly by an opportunity to make big promises to ourselves and others about the year ahead.

It’s a great time to look back on what we’ve learned, integrate what we want to continue, and say goodbye to what we’d rather not take into 2026.

Between now and the New Year, we’ll reflect back on some of the issues and events that inspired community conversations this past year. We’ll start by taking a look at the most-read letters we received from readers in 2025.

Ruth Lovell Stanners submitted this letter to Council — and to Owen Sound Current — in February:

Public Notices

  • Owen Sound’s Community Services Committee meets for the last time this year on Wednesday, December 17, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. On their agenda: an update from the Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce on the recently implemented Tourism Development Fund (MAT), a working group recommendation to go ahead and rename Ryerson Park, a request for a commemorative tree and a staff report on concession options at Julie McArthur Rec Centre, and more.

Owen Sound Current is the city’s only independent, locally owned, ad-free news source — in your inbox five days a week.

Keep reading for upcoming events, obituaries, and local news, including injuries and charges laid in a collision involving a firetruck and a school bus yesterday, news from the Festival of Northern Lights, an update on bail proceedings in the Sharif Rahman homicide case, and a lot more.
