South Bruce Peninsula Declares Significant Weather Event Amid Flooding & Road Closures
South Bruce Peninsula has declared a significant weather event as flooding leads to road closures, including a stretch of Highway 6 and Bruce Road 14.

The South Bruce Peninsula has declared a significant weather event as flooding continues across the region following several days of heavy rain and rapid snowmelt.
The declaration was made Thursday, April 16, as local waterways rose above typical spring runoff levels and ground conditions reached full saturation, limiting the ability to absorb additional rainfall. With more rain in the forecast, municipal staff say efforts are focused on flood mitigation and response.
Officials say multiple watersheds across the municipality are experiencing higher-than-normal water levels, contributing to widespread flooding concerns.
Road closures reported in the area
Flooding has already led to road closures in parts of Bruce County.
Bruce Road 14 is closed between Maryville Lake Road and MacDonald Street to support emergency flooding response. Local traffic closure signage has been placed at the intersections of Bruce Road 14 and Bruce Road 8, and Bruce Road 14 and Highway 21. Motorists are being asked to use alternate routes.
Separately, Highway 6 north of Hepworth at Spring Creek Road is also closed due to flooding. Signage is in place at Highway 6 and Spring Creek Road, and at Highway 6 and North Diagonal.
The main intersection in Hepworth at Highway 6, Bruce Road 8, and Bruce Road 10 remains open.
Up-to-date information on road closures is available through Municipal 511.
A significant weather event is a formal designation used by municipalities when weather conditions create hazards that make it temporarily impossible to meet the province’s minimum maintenance standards for roads and sidewalks.
The Town emphasized that the declaration does not mean services have been reduced. Instead, it serves as a public notice that travel conditions may be hazardous and that it may take longer than usual to restore roads and sidewalks to normal condition.
Residents are advised to use caution when travelling and to avoid any roads that have been closed due to flooding.
