Serious Crash Involving School Bus Shuts Down Highway 10 in Chatsworth
Two students were hospitalized and a pickup truck driver airlifted following a crash involving a school bus near Chatsworth. Highway 10 remains closed as OPP investigate.
A serious two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and a pickup truck shut down a section of Highway 10 Monday morning, sending multiple people to hospital and prompting a major police investigation.
Police reported at 10:30 a.m. that the crash occurred around 8:23 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 10 and Sideroad 70, in the Township of Chatsworth.
According to Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), two students aboard the school bus were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. The driver of the pickup truck sustained more serious injuries and was airlifted to a trauma centre in the London area.
Police have not confirmed how many people were on the bus at the time of the crash, the nature of the students’ injuries, or which school they attend.
It is also unclear at this time what caused the collision, and no details have been released about road conditions or whether charges are being considered.
Highway 10 has been closed in both directions between Sideroad 60 and Sideroad 80, and Sideroad 70 is closed between East Back Line and West Back Line. OPP collision reconstruction specialists are currently on scene, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues.
The presence of a school bus in the crash raises significant safety concerns, particularly given the time of day — during the morning student commute.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grey Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
This is a developing story. Owen Sound Current will continue to follow updates as they become available.
