“It was great to meet with Graham Engelhardt, who is serving as a Page in the Ontario Legislature. Graham attends Ecole Saint-Dominique-Savio in Owen Sound. Thanks for your great work, Graham!” ~ MPP Rick Byers, via X

Our first item today is a letter to the editor.

As you may recall, Owen Sound Council disbanded the Remuneration Task Force in February before the group had a chance to begin their assessment of Council pay.

One of the key issues this group was to look at was whether council remuneration is an obstacle to civic participation. In short, can the people who most need representation in Council Chambers even afford a seat at the table?

Well, Council didn’t think that conversation needed to happen.

Not about to be silenced, those folks appointed to the task force joined up with a few others to go ahead and conduct the research anyway.

Now that they’ve completed their assessment and want to present their findings to the City, their request to make a deputation has been denied.

So says David McLeish, who’s written a letter to the editor about the group’s findings – and the difficulty they’re having being heard by our elected representatives.
