There’s lots happening this weekend in the run-up to Halloween, including indoor trick-or-treating at the YMCA and Heritage Place Mall, as well as the Trick or Treat Trail at participating businesses in the River District.

The grownups among us might enjoy a night out for a comedy show, trivia, costume party, or live music… they’re among the 20+ local events we have listed for full subscribers below.

On a more solemn note, the Tree Planting to Honour Sharif Rahman is happening this Saturday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre. It’s an important opportunity to gather, reflect, and honour the memory of a good man and community member who was taken too soon.

Though I cannot attend in person, I will be there in spirit. Saturday is also the ‘Future of Independent Media Summit’ hosted by the Cultural Policy Hub at OCAD U, a commitment I made before the ceremony was announced. I hope to learn some new tricks and bring a few useful things back to The Owen Sound Current.

I hope you’ll consider attending the tree planting if you’re able. If not, stop by in the days following to visit and reflect. This lasting tribute will continue to honour Sharif’s place in our community.
