We kick things off today with a new letter to the editor. In his submission, independent research consultant David Clark raises a red flag on how statistical claims are being used—and sometimes misused—by public officials in Owen Sound.
From inflated daily population figures to overly ambitious growth projections, Clark walks readers through examples where numbers may have been stretched past the point of credibility.
His concern? The lack of statistical literacy and critical thinking skills among those in influential roles. These are things he argues we can’t afford to ignore.
Letter: People in Important Positions Must Use Statistics & Data Carefully
Dear Editor, We have a critical thinking and basic statistical illiteracy skills crisis. What is worrying is that people in important positions are making these errors.
