In a new letter to the editor, David McLeish is urging Owen Sound City Council to commission an independent audit of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery’s finances and attendance data.

He highlights concerns about transparency and calls for evidence-based budgeting to evaluate funding levels and the need for a proposed expansion — one we see taking incremental steps forward, despite a handful of Council members claiming it’s not happening.

McLeish argues that an independent review would address public concerns and help align the gallery’s operations with community priorities and fiscal responsibility. See what you think:

LETTER: City staff are public servants. They are hired rather than elected and are responsible for delivering various programs and services, advising City Council on policy, drafting bylaws, and ensuring Council follows the law. They are expected to be nonpartisan and impartial. Both are critical to ensure ethical governance and the public’s trust.
