Write @ Your Library Contest Now Open to Young Writers Across Grey–Bruce
The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library is accepting Grade 7–12 entries for the 2025 Write @ Your Library contest until Oct. 24. Cash prizes up to $100.
The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library has opened submissions for its 2025 Write @ Your Library creative writing contest, inviting students in Grades 7 to 12 from across Grey and Bruce counties to submit short stories, poems, or a front-cover design for this year’s anthology.
The deadline for entries is Friday, October 24, 2025.
Winning submissions will be published in Write for 2025, with cash prizes of up to $100 awarded at the judges’ discretion.
The contest is coordinated by the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library with support from The Ginger Press, United Way, and partner libraries in Bruce County, Grey Highlands, Hanover, Meaford, Southgate, and West Grey.
Students in Grades 7 to 12 who hold a valid card from one of the participating libraries are eligible to enter. Entries will be judged in two categories: Junior (Grades 7 to 9) and Senior (Grades 10 to 12). Participants may submit up to five poems (each up to 50 lines), or up to two short stories (each up to 1,500 words).
Those interested in designing a cover can submit original artwork that fits a 5.5” by 8.5” layout and includes only the words “Write for 2025.”
Entries must be sent by email to schamberlain@library.osngupl.ca as an editable attachment, not a PDF. Each submission should include the entrant’s full name, address, phone number, grade level, library name, and library card number in the body of the email.
If no acknowledgement is received within five business days, entrants are asked to contact 519-376-6623 ext. 5220 after that time.
All entries must be the author’s own, previously unpublished work. Fan fiction will not be accepted. The library reserves the right to reproduce and publish entries, and may make formatting adjustments for publication while preserving content.
Library membership may be verified, and the judges’ decisions are final. Winners will be notified by email or phone.
