WHSS Class of '78-79 Plan September Reunion to 'Face Off' with Historic OSCVI Rivals
West Hill Secondary School 1978/79 alumni plan reunion for September 27, two days after the OSCVI Class of '75 reunion is set to take place and just in time for the West Hill group's 65th birthdays.

Double Blue school colours will replace the black, red and gold at Legacy Golf course on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, when the West Hill Secondary School (WHSS) class of 1978-79 also reunite!
“Our organizers had a hearty chuckle hearing there was a “Class of 75” reunion of the former Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute (OSCVI), the same week, at the same venue. There was always a mostly friendly rivalry between the former West and East Secondary schools. We even had a “West is Best,” spirit button designed in 1977,” Jill McFadden-Bartley, a former WHSS grad, shared.
Organizers quipped the rivalry “lives on”, despite only one amalgamated school, Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS), now existing.
Two days after the OSCVI class reunion, West Hill Secondary School jackets, yearbooks, memorabilia and memories will be shared as registrants gather.
“We’ve had a good local response, and some classmates will return to town for the event. Sadly, many of our teachers are deceased but about a dozen will join us,” Mark May, one of 6 organizers, said.
Months have been spent gathering emails, corresponding and organizing the September event. Attendees have the option to join for an afternoon greet and mingle, or come for the afternoon and stay for dinner. A memorial table will pay tribute to many predeceased schoolmates.
The graduating class of 78-79 decided this was an ideal year to hold a gathering. They plan to not only reminisce about time spent at West Hill Secondary (WHSS), but to celebrate their 65th Birthdays!
