Miranda……you should be running for counsel. Your article hits the nail on the head, revealing the truth. The City should not sugar coat what is a very troubling situation with the homeless and closing stores. Why can’t we have a community meeting to open up the discussion with counsel and City staff?
This article hits the nail on the head. Owen Sound needs some sort of action plan that is relevant to what is happening now. Change can only occur if we address the problems now. Let's get together and formulate a plan.
I really like this end of the article. Well written. “Toxic Positivity”. Thats exactly what is happening. Put your blinders on and come downtown and support your local businesses. Never mind the crack that is being smoked next to you or the human waste you are stepping in. Ignore the garbage and psychiatric yells of profanity by people that loiter there… Come on… just do your part. Thats how it feels. As a parent of young children, this is very challenging…and scary. The new cameras don’t offer much reassurance.
An excellent and unfortunately very accurate description of the sad state of affairs in downtown. There is no value in denying reality. Our community is far from alone in facing these challenges. there is no easy solution but the city does need to explore ways to deal with this very troubling issue.
What an excellent article Miranda. I too noticed the press release and wondered which city was being described. You are right that the council and city staff are not inviting dialogue; they are shutting it down. It makes me sad that so much good will in this community is being held hostage to poor leadership. I'd be interested to know how many key decision-makers actually live in or near the downtown. Or even go out for a daily walk from the 'city hall enclave' to 10th or 12th street. What would they see with their own eyes?

Does Canada have an equivalent of a Pulitzer prize?
Well said ... couldn't have said it any better myself!
