The City of Owen Sound announced late the evening of Tuesday, October 31, that the 800 block and 900 blocks of 2nd Ave E will be closed today, Wednesday, November 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Thursday, November 2, parking lane closures only will occur in the 100 and 200 block of 8th St. East, and the 700 Block of 2nd Ave. East.

These closures are to accommodate stump removal, tree planting, and installation of the Noma cross street lighting.

The City’s media release noted that the River District is home to approximately 300 small businesses; however, the announcement offered no explanation as to why the public notice came out less than 12 hours before closing the 800 and 900 blocks to traffic for an entire business day.

The media release states that, “Customers in the River district are encouraged to utilize the complimentary five-hour parking in long-term lots or two-hour on-street parking on unaffected streets during this service disruption.” How they will know that given the lack of notice is unclear.

Those with questions are encouraged to contact Adam Parsons at 519-376-4440 ext. 1221 or email aparsons@owensound.ca.
