In recent days, we've been covering concerns from Owen Sound residents and business owners about transparency, leadership, and the City's ability — or willingness — to listen.

Today, we're sharing another letter; this one from Jim Hutton, a retired municipal executive and concerned resident. We’ve published letters and even a special report series of his in the past.

Even when he’s critical, Jim doesn’t just lean on his (substantial) experience. He does his homework and brings receipts in the form of data, cited sources, and analysis that should at least be acknowledged and discussed by those in positions to make use of it.

In this latest, Hutton outlines what he sees as a troubling pattern of disengagement from City Hall: a town hall downgraded, committees cancelled, and public participation consistently and methodically reduced.

His call to action is clear: real change in Owen Sound will require new leadership and renewed commitment to public service, he says.

Hutton’s words reflect what many in the community have been expressing in emails and letters, surveys, coffee shops, and desperate pleas before Council for years now: the status quo isn’t working.

And it's time to do something about it.

This is Jim’s take. What’s yours? Submit your thoughts to owensoundcurrenteditor@gmail.com with ‘Letter’ in the subject line.
