Call for Columnists & Sustainers
Are you interested in writing a monthly column for The Owen Sound Current? Community contributors don’t cover news; they bring unique perspective, insight and knowledge from various parts of the community to share with others.
There’s Jennifer Deeks, for example, a Master Gardener who shares her landscaping and gardening wisdom with us each month. Cathy Hird reflects on life and the natural world around us, and Joel Pennington talks healthy communities and building up our shared spaces together.
Community columnists receive an honorarium per column, thanks to the generosity of our Sustaining Supporters — those community members most passionate about uplifting and amplifying local voices. Contributors also receive their annual Owen Sound Current subscription free of charge (a $198 value).
So what are we looking for? Interesting, focused, and original columns of up to 600 words on your area of specialization, and a commitment to submit monthly with first publication rights for two weeks. We’re looking for things other community members need and want to know, but may not have a direct line of sight at.
Think: Owen Sound’s music scene, service and hobby clubs, our environment and nature; people, places and things unique to our region.

COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION: Today, our local food reviewer takes us just south of town to a historic building smack dab in the centre of Williamsford.
They’ve renovated and rebuilt since a devastating fire, and are finding their way back into locals’ hearts — and bellies — with sandwiches, soups, frozen meals, and a selection of dessert pies our reviewer deems “legendary.”
