Does crime take a day off? There was a noticeable lack of police reports in my inbox as I prepared this edition.

Perhaps it’s a residual effect of the eclipse. In any case, I’m delighted to bring you an Owen Sound Current issue heavy on culture and environment today.

We’ll begin with Richard-Yves Sitoski’s latest column, in which he continues his conversation with Kati Gleiser, one of Canada’s top classical pianists.

“As far as being a great artist, or even a technician, it’s risky. I go on stage, and there’s no certainty. And that’s terrifying!

[Even with] my training—which was like splitting hairs—now that I’m on the other side of it, I respect and appreciate it. But every artist is terrified. Like Horowitz, he had a mental breakdown and had to leave the stage for ten years.

One artist I’m attuned to now is Yuja Wang, who’s a phenomenal, phenomenal pianist. She has really evolved, and she talks about how uncomfortable it is on stage. But that’s her job! To be uncomfortable on stage.

The moment you’re comfortable, it’s over.”
