After raising more than $48,000 last year, the Walk for Courage is set to return even bigger in 2026. The 5th Annual event takes place Saturday, July 25th, bringing communities together across Grey and Bruce in support of mental health and suicide prevention.
Participants can take part in the walk in Owen Sound, Hanover, or virtually, making it easy for people across the region and beyond to get involved in a way that works for them.
This year introduces a new online home for the event. Participants can now register, donate, and learn more by visiting www.walkforcourage.ca, which connects to a new, user friendly fundraising platform designed to make participation easier than ever.
To kick things off, organizers are offering an early bird incentive. Anyone who signs up before May 5th will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the June 5th Blue Jays game in Toronto.
The Walk for Courage was started by the Courage family in memory of Jeff Courage, who died by suicide in 2019. What began as a way to honour Jeff’s life has grown into a powerful annual event that continues to bring people together while raising awareness and funds for local mental health services.
Funds raised through the walk support a range of programs across CMHA Grey Bruce, including mental health and recovery counselling, education and training in workplaces and schools, and housing and community supports that help people build stability and connection.
“We continue to be amazed by the community support,” says Greg Courage. “This walk means so much to our family, and seeing it grow each year shows that many people want to make a difference and support mental health in Grey Bruce.”
“Walk for Courage is one of those events that brings people together,” says Don Vail, Communications and Fund Development Manager at CMHA Grey Bruce. “The reason we walk is serious, but the event itself is filled with connection, hope, community, and even laughter. It’s a reminder that no one has to face things alone.”
The online auction will also return this year, featuring a wide range of items generously donated by local businesses and supporters. More details will be announced closer to the event. If you are interested in donating to the auction, please reach out.
Community members are encouraged to register for the walk as individuals or teams, with opportunities for businesses, organizations, and groups to get involved and show their support. To register, donate, or learn more, visit www.walkforcourage.ca
