Upcoming Talk to Explore Stephen Hogbin’s Legacy in Woodworking
Join award-winning wood sculptor Mark Sfirri for a virtual talk on March 18 about Stephen Hogbin’s impact on contemporary woodworking and furniture design. Hosted by Intersections Wood Collaborative.

Intersections Wood Collaborative in downtown Owen Sound will host a virtual presentation by award-winning wood sculptor Mark Sfirri about the work of Stephen Hogbin (1942-2022) and its remarkable impact on international contemporary furniture making and woodturning at 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 18.
World-recognized woodworker, artist, designer, writer, and environmentalist, Stephen Hogbin founded Intersections Wood Studio and Gallery in downtown Owen Sound. He generously shared his knowledge of woodworking and design, as well as his infectious optimism for a better future through the arts, with all who passed through the doors.
Intersections Wood Collaborative (IWC), a non-profit which evolved from Stephen’s concept, has become a gathering place for those who share Stephen’s enthusiasm for creative woodworking and design, as well as his unwavering respect and care for trees and the environment. IWC now hosts workshops for beginning and experienced woodworkers and turners, as well as guest lectures, demonstrations, and community projects.
Stephen Hogbin was the recipient of the prestigious American Association Professional Outreach Program’s Merit Award in 2007, the inaugural year of the award. Mark Sfirri was the 2024 recipient of this award. Adjacent to his solo exhibition, Mark recently curated an exhibition at the Museum for Art in Wood titled Inspirations, Influences, and Collaborations which featured six of Hogbin’s works.
