Two Shelburne Men Charged in Attempted Grandparent Scam Targeting Chatsworth Senior
Grey Bruce OPP arrested two Shelburne men after an attempted “grandparent scam” targeting a 95-year-old woman in Chatsworth. No money was lost thanks to a family member’s intervention.
The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two Shelburne men in connection with an attempted “grandparent scam” targeting a vulnerable 95-year-old woman in the Township of Chatsworth.
On June 24, 2025, the victim received a phone call from a man pretending to be her grandson in legal distress. This was followed by another male posing as a lawyer, attempting to convince her to withdraw money for legal fees.
A family member, suspecting a scam, contacted police immediately. No financial information was shared, and no funds were lost.
Two days later, on June 26, the same victim received a second call—this time from someone claiming to be her son. The caller alleged he had been in a serious accident and needed $58,000 for legal representation. The suspects said a person would arrive at her home to collect the money.
Thanks to the quick thinking of a family member, police were notified and responded promptly. Two males were arrested at the victim’s residence upon arrival.
The following individuals have been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada:
Leroy Foster, 28, of Shelburne: Fraud Over $5,000, Disguise with Intent
Aqeal Kisun-Johnson, 24, of Shelburne: Fraud Over $5,000
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 7, 2025.
The Grey Bruce OPP is reminding the public to remain vigilant about scams targeting seniors. If you or someone you know receives a suspicious call requesting money, officials advise verifying the information with a trusted family member and contacting police immediately.
