Two Court Files Against Colin Correia Move Ahead on Separate Tracks
Former Owen Sound high school teacher and SBP firefighter to face trial for separate charges laid by Grey Bruce OPP and Owen Sound Police Service in 2025.
Two criminal proceedings against Colin Correia in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound are set to continue through the summer, with a trial scheduled for December on one of the files.
Sexual assault, exploitation and voyeurism charges
In one case, Correia faces charges of sexual assault and voyeurism. The Crown is proceeding by indictment. Trial dates are scheduled to begin December 14.
A second set of charges — sexual assault and sexual exploitation — came before the court July 7 for a brief appearance to update the court on status and was adjourned to July 30. Correia has elected to be tried in the Ontario Court of Justice on that matter.
Court staff confirmed the July 30 appearance is scheduled to proceed in open court.
Correia, of South Bruce Peninsula, was a technology teacher at St. Mary’s High School and ran for a council seat in Georgian Bluffs in 2022. His social media previously listed him as a firefighter in South Bruce Peninsula. The Owen Sound Current asked the service to confirm whether he remains an active member and did not receive a response.
The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board said Correia was placed on leave when the allegations surfaced. When contacted at that time by The Owen Sound Current, Correia said he had been advised by his lawyer not to comment.
As of June 4, 2026, the Ontario College of Teachers listed Correia’s membership as in good standing. Its public register notes, however, that he undertook on June 21, 2025 not to seek or accept any position requiring a teaching certificate until the College disposes of the complaint against him; the register states no finding has been made against him by the College.
The register also carries notations recording both sets of criminal charges — the May 9, 2025 Owen Sound police charges and the Aug. 19, 2025 OPP charges.
Publication bans and the July 7 hearing
Both files are subject to publication bans under section 486.4 of the Criminal Code, which prohibit publishing any information that could identify the complainant(s). The bans do not prevent identifying Correia or reporting on the progress of the cases.
The July 7 appearance, at which both files were addressed together, was closed to the public and media by judicial direction. The charges against Correia have not been proven in court.
