Tuesday Morning Crash Sends Owen Sound Woman to Hospital; Other Driver Charged
A 30-year-old woman was treated for injuries after a driver ran a red light in Owen Sound. Both vehicles were towed and charges have been laid under the Highway Traffic Act.
A 30-year-old Owen Sound woman was taken to hospital Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle crash at a major intersection in the city’s east end.
Owen Sound Police say emergency services responded just before 9:30 a.m. on July 15 to the intersection of 16th Street and 16th Avenue East after a Hyundai Tucson and a 2002 Ford Thunderbird collided.
Police say the driver of the Thunderbird was heading eastbound on 16th Street East when they failed to stop for a red light and struck the Hyundai, which was proceeding southbound through the intersection.
Grey County Paramedic Services transported the woman driving the Hyundai to Brightshores Health System with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
Owen Sound Police closed the intersection for about 45 minutes to allow for the treatment of the injured driver, scene investigation, and vehicle removal.
The driver of the Ford Thunderbird has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to stop for a red light.
