In March, the City of Owen Sound issued a precautionary boil water advisory affecting roughly 24,000 people. It lasted two and a half days, over a weekend, in winter weather, while parts of the region were without power.

We asked the City a number of questions at the time. Some were answered. Many were not.

So on March 16 — the day the advisory was lifted — we filed a freedom-of-information request for the water treatment plant’s turbidity readings, operator logs, regulatory notifications and internal communications.

We received those records this week. Four months later, after paying $772.50 in fees.

They arrive redacted, and the release is incomplete. We’ll spend the coming weeks going through all 613 pages, and we’ll report what they show.

But we’re not waiting to say why this still matters. We can start there.
