The salmon run has long been a seasonal marker in Owen Sound, drawing crowds and anchoring community traditions. But in this letter, local resident Sasha Fernando questions what the spectacle really means today.

With Chinook salmon in decline and the lake’s ecology shifting, Fernando asks whether continuing to stock and celebrate a non-native species reflects stewardship — or if it’s time to reinvest in native fish and habitat instead.
