Today’s edition carries a strong throughline: Georgian Bay — the places we cherish, the stories we tell about them, and the harder truths we sometimes overlook.
We begin with the launch of a new book I’m proud to be involved in: Flowerpot Island: Exploring the Remarkable Georgian Bay Island off the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula. More on that below.
Also in today’s issue is a compelling letter to the editor from Sasha Fernando, a long-time local resident and outdoor enthusiast. In response to recent conversations about the TC Energy pumped storage proposal near Meaford, Sasha calls for a broader view… one that doesn’t lose sight of the quieter, cumulative threats facing the Bay.
Shoreline hardening, overdevelopment, and the creeping expansion of “lakeside living” all play a role in shaping the future of this ecosystem. The letter doesn’t offer easy answers, but it asks the right questions and invites us to do the same.
In both pieces, the underlying message is the same: if we truly care about Georgian Bay, we need to look closely… not just at the big projects that make headlines, but at the everyday decisions that shape the shoreline, the water, and the life it sustains.
Letter: Yes, Georgian Bay Is at Risk — And Not Just From Industry
LETTER TO THE EDITOR - There is an uncomfortable truth that often gets overlooked in conversations about projects like this one. While there is a huge focus on the pumped storage proposal, the quieter cumulative impacts on Georgian Bay are continuing to build up.

P.S. We’re working on a report right now involving the Grandma Lambe’s workers from Jamaica who are stranded in Canada, worried for their families and community, due to Hurricane Melissa. We’ll share that later today but in the meantime, you can help support them here.
