When we started Owen Sound Current two years ago, I had no idea just how much was really happening in and around Owen Sound. Every week, we learn something new; not just about our city, but about the people, projects, and ideas shaping life across Grey and Bruce.
We now receive tips, story ideas, and event listings every day. Across the City of Owen Sound, Grey County, Meaford, Georgian Bluffs, and neighbouring communities, there are dozens of council and committee meetings each month, easily adding up to more than a hundred hours of public discussion and decision-making.
It’s a lot to keep track of, and we can’t be everywhere at once. But that’s what makes local journalism both challenging and essential.
Right now, we’re following several important stories: the pursuit of justice for Sharif Rahman, the ongoing investigation into BG Wealth Group, the ongoing dysfunction at Grey Bruce Health Unit, and Owen Sound’s $200,000 strategic planning process — among others that continue to evolve week by week.
As we grow, one thing has become clear: independent journalism only works when it’s rooted in the community it serves. Your tips, your questions, and your support make it possible to keep shining light on the stories that matter most here at home.
Send in the photos you want to share with others… this becomes part of the archive of who we were in this moment. Write us a letter and document what mattered in this moment. Share what’s happening in your corner of the community; you’d be amazed at who may be surprised, inspired, or delighted by it.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and helping us keep the conversation going.
Public Notices
The City’s Operations Committee meets on Thursday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. On their agenda: a staff report on non-eligible blue box collectibles to inform the decision Council needs to make on in-city pickups by December 31. See the agenda here.
Keep reading for local news, including a police report on a dog attack in Dundalk, charges for a woman who rammed an Owen Sound Police cruiser, human trafficking town halls coming to Grey and Bruce, an upcoming appearance by an iconic Canadian journalist, and a lot more.
