In the short time since the Sauble Beach sign was changed to “Saugeen Beach,” much of the public response has been thoughtful and respectful — but some of it, disappointingly, has not.
Amid online backlash and a wave of commentary ranging from confused to outright racist, one reader wrote in to offer a different perspective.
David Wood of Mildmay uses humour and historical clarity to reframe the sign change not as erasure, but as restoration. “It’s not cancel culture,” he writes. “It’s correction culture.”
