Is Owen Sound’s new Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) mandatory or voluntary?
Will Owen Sound residents, businesses, and ratepayers be subjected to this new tax?
Are there any exemptions to the new MAT?
These are among the questions answered on the City of Owen Sound’s new webpage explaining the MAT. It’s a new 4% levy collected on most short-term stays at hotels, motels, Airbnbs, bed and breakfasts, and campgrounds. And it goes into effect March 1, 2024.
Learn more about who this tax is for and how the funds generated will be used on the City website at Home/Investing/Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT).
Now, a quick public notice, then on to the news.
