We’re heading into a long weekend for many, which means this is the last regular news brief until Tuesday, April 7. As usual, we’ll be back in your inbox with any urgent or breaking news — though we hope for everyone’s sake it’s quiet on that front.

If you feel like you might miss us too much, save half of today’s Local News for tomorrow morning’s reading (and maybe even Monday). This edition is packed.

Before you go, let’s take a look at the community poll we ran earlier this week.

Ontario’s “Sunshine List” falls further behind inflation and costs of living with each passing year, and the reporting threshold for civil servants hasn’t changed since it launched in 1996. So we asked:

Results current as of 7 p.m. April 1, 2026.

One-fifth (20%) of respondents still want to see the disclosure of all public sector salaries of $100,000 or more, while 34% said they believe it should be closer to the inflation-adjusted $180,000+ mark.

Reporting on salaries $200,000 or higher earned the most votes (37%), and the majority clearly feel $250,000 is too high a threshold, let alone $300,000.
