SUBMITTED
On May 12 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30), the OSCVI Community Auditorium at East Ridge Community School will host a community screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Voice of Hind Rajab.
The film centers on a real emergency call from January 29, 2024, when a five-year-old girl in Gaza, Hind Rajab, was trapped in a car under fire and pleading for rescue.
As Red Crescent volunteers worked to reach her, the call captured both the urgency of the moment and the broader realities facing civilians in conflict zones.
The evening will also include a brief talk by Dr. Yipeng Ge, a resident physician at the University of Ottawa and public health advocate. Dr. Ge has spent time in Gaza as part of medical solidarity efforts and has worked to support healthcare delivery under siege conditions.
In May 2024, he attempted to return to Gaza but was prevented from entering after the closure of the Rafah crossing. He has also participated in international solidarity initiatives, including efforts to deliver humanitarian aid by sea, highlighting the challenges faced by those trying to provide medical assistance in the region.
His remarks will provide important context on the healthcare realities behind the film’s subject.
Tickets are $10, with a pay-what-you-can option available. All proceeds will support Safe ‘N Sound. All are welcome to attend.
