A routine traffic stop for a defective headlight led to charges against a suspended driver in Owen Sound early Wednesday morning.
On November 27, 2024, at approximately 12:07 a.m., officers with the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on 6th Street West after noticing it had a headlight out.
Following an investigation, police charged a 19-year-old Owen Sound resident with multiple offences, including:
Driving while under suspension
Driving without proper headlights
Operating a motor vehicle without a permit
The accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.
In a statement, the Grey Bruce OPP issued a reminder to the public about the importance of adhering to licence requirements. “If your licence is suspended, do not drive,” they cautioned. Driving while suspended is illegal and can result in fines, arrests, or further licence suspensions.
Police encourage drivers to ensure their licences and vehicle documentation are valid before taking to the road.
