SIU Investigating After Man Injured During OPP Call to Owen Sound Retirement Home
Ontario’s police watchdog has launched an investigation into an Owen Sound incident involving a man injured during police interaction.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident in Owen Sound after a man sustained a fractured arm during an interaction with Ontario Provincial Police early Saturday morning.
According to the OPP, officers from the Grey Bruce Detachment responded to a retirement home at approximately 1:30 a.m. on November 22, following a report of a male in distress.
During the police response, the individual’s arm was fractured. The nature of the distress call and the events that led to the injury have not been disclosed.
The OPP reported the incident to the SIU, which has since invoked its mandate — a standard process when police are involved in incidents that result in serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault.
No additional information has been provided regarding the identity or age of the man involved, the specific location of the retirement home, or details on what occurred during the police response. As a result of the SIU’s involvement, the OPP is now restricted from releasing further details.
The SIU, an independent civilian oversight agency, is conducting an investigation to determine whether any police actions may have contributed to the injury. The agency has not issued a public statement or appeal for witnesses as of publication time.
Inquiries related to the investigation are being directed to the SIU’s media office.
