Shopkeeper Seriously Injured in Owen Sound Robbery, Suspect in Custody
Owen Sound Police have charged a 29-year-old man after a robbery and assault left a shopkeeper requiring surgery.
A shopkeeper was seriously injured during a robbery at a west-side business in Owen Sound on Sunday morning, according to police.
The Owen Sound Police Service say officers were called just before 11 a.m. on April 12 after a report of a theft in progress.
Police say a man was inside the store taking merchandise when the shopkeeper intervened and demanded the items be returned. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly punched the shopkeeper in the face.
The victim sustained what police described as significant injuries and was transported to hospital by Grey County EMS, where he required emergency treatment, including surgery.
Arrest Made at Scene
Police say a 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with:
Robbery
Aggravated assault
Theft
Breach of probation
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in bail court on April 13.
According to police, the accused was already out on bail at the time of the incident. Previous charges included assault, breach of probation, theft, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police have not released the name of the accused.
They also did not identify the business involved, provide details about the suspect’s place of residence, or give further information about the circumstances leading up to the incident.
