Sexual Assault Charge Laid After Teen Accosted by Unknown Man in Harrison Park
Owen Sound police say bystanders and the girl's family held a man until officers arrived after a 13-year-old was grabbed in Harrison Park June 30.
Owen Sound police have charged a 31-year-old man with sexual assault after a 13-year-old girl was grabbed from behind in Harrison Park on June 30.
Officers responded to the park at about 12:45 p.m. after the girl reported being accosted by a man she did not know, according to a police news release. Police say the man grabbed her from behind and that she broke free and sought help from people nearby, who kept her safe and called police.
The man tried to flee, police say, but members of the public — including the girl’s family — stopped him and kept watch until officers arrived and arrested him a short distance away.
Police have charged a 31-year-old man of no fixed address with assault, sexual assault and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody, where police say he remains.
The charges have not been tested in court. Police have not released the man’s name, and none of the details here identify the victim. A publication ban may restrict what can be reported about a case of this kind.
