Sauble Beach Driver Charged After Fleeing R.I.D.E. Check
A 59-year-old Sauble Beach man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a R.I.D.E. checkpoint and nearly striking a police officer.
A Sauble Beach man is facing several charges after police say he fled from a R.I.D.E. checkpoint and narrowly missed striking an officer.
The incident happened on August 16 at around 7:37 p.m., when Grey Bruce OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program at the intersection of Second Avenue North and Third Avenue North in Sauble Beach.
According to police, a white BMW entered the checkpoint. After a brief interaction with the driver, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, narrowly missing a uniformed officer.
Police located the suspect and vehicle a short time later at a nearby residence.
As a result, 59-year-old William Stanfield of Sauble Beach has been charged with:
Flight from a peace officer
Dangerous operation of a vehicle
Resisting a peace officer
Stanfield was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court on September 11.
