Ron Sexsmith to Perform at Summerfolk50 in Owen Sound

Renowned Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith will be joining the artist lineup for Summerfolk50, the milestone edition of Owen Sound’s annual folk music festival taking place August 15–17 at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.
Organizers confirmed Sexsmith’s participation in a media release this week, calling it a “true homecoming” for the three-time Juno Award winner, who now resides in Perth County. Sexsmith’s inclusion adds significant weight to this year’s program, which celebrates five decades of Summerfolk.
Sexsmith’s career spans more than 30 years and includes 17 studio albums, collaborations with prominent artists, and accolades from legends such as Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, and Paul McCartney.
Known for his introspective songwriting and distinctive voice, Sexsmith has cultivated a devoted following with his blend of folk, pop, and roots.
Originally from St. Catharines, Ontario, Sexsmith began performing in his teens and moved to Toronto in the late 1980s to pursue music full-time. His self-titled 1995 album, produced by Mitchell Froom, brought critical acclaim and helped establish his international reputation.
In addition to his musical output, Sexsmith is also a published novelist and will debut as a theatrical composer in 2025 with a new production of As You Like It at the Stratford Festival.
Summerfolk50 promises a diverse lineup of performers and artisans, with programming details and ticket information available through the festival’s official website at summerfolk.org.
