Robert Busby Evans Sr. Appears in Owen Sound Court in Connection to Sharif Rahman Homicide Case
Busby Evans Sr., extradited from Scotland in December, is charged as an accessory after the fact to manslaughter in the 2023 death of Sharif Rahman.
Robert Busby Evans Sr. appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound by video on Wednesday, Jan. 7, continuing legal proceedings in the high-profile homicide case stemming from the 2023 death of Sharif Rahman.
Rahman, 44, died on August 24, 2023, one week after suffering critical head injuries in an altercation outside his restaurant, The Curry House.
Evans Sr., now 48, is charged as an accessory after the fact to manslaughter, accused of helping his son, Robert Evans Jr., evade Canadian authorities following the fatal assault outside The Curry House in downtown Owen Sound.
Evans Sr.’s brother, Barry Evans, 55, was also charged with accessory after the fact to an indictable offence.

Monday’s appearance marked his first court date since he was remanded into custody in Canada alongside his son and brother in December, after all three were extradited from Scotland.
According to extradition records, Busby Evans Sr., also known as Justin Jones, entered Canada on June 4, 2023, on a valid UK passport under that alias. He arrived on a flight from Glasgow to Toronto alongside his son, Evans Jr., who travelled under the alias Michael Jones.
The group, along with others not charged in Rahman’s homicide, travelled Southwestern Ontario offering driveway paving services from door to door. They are accused of fleeing to Collingwood, where they’d worked previously, the night of the assault.
Investigators allege that Barry Evans returned to Travelodge Owen Sound twice the following morning, on August 18, 2023: first to pick up a cash deposit, and second to pick up his ID and registration information. Removing that data from the hotel appears to be the basis of Barry Evans’ accessory charge.
Busby Evans Sr. is alleged to have booked a flight for his son and arranged for his transport to the airport that same day. He reportedly told a worker at their job site that his son Robert Jr. had to return home.
Robert Jr. and Barry Evans left on separate flights out of Canada on August 18 as Rahman lay unconscious in a London, Ontario, hospital with a fractured skull.
All three men were extradited from Scotland and made their first appearance in Owen Sound court in December 2025. At that appearance, Evans Sr. noted he had already spent over 16 months in a Scottish prison awaiting extradition.
Busby Evans Sr. has been remanded to January 21, 2026, for his next court appearance. The three accused remain in custody. A publication ban is in place on any evidence presented in bail hearings.
