Resident Gets a Rude Awakening as Deer Leaps Through Owen Sound Bedroom Window
Owen Sound police were attending an unrelated call when a deer crashed through a ground-floor apartment window, waking a resident asleep inside.
It is not the way anyone wants to be woken up.
An Owen Sound resident was asleep in her ground-floor bedroom Saturday when a deer crashed through the window, the Owen Sound Police Service says.
Officers were already at the apartment complex in the city’s northwest end on an unrelated call when they spotted a deer wandering through the parking area. According to police, the animal was startled by nearby activity and the screams of residents, and bolted — straight through the bedroom window of a ground-floor unit.
Two women were inside. One was asleep when the deer made its entrance.
Officers evacuated both occupants and opened the patio door, hoping the deer would take the more conventional exit. After several attempts to coax it toward the opening, the animal made its own decision and leapt back out through the window it came in.
One resident was treated for minor scrapes to her arm. Her bedroom did not fare as well; police say it sustained significant damage. The deer appeared uninjured.
OSPS is reminding residents to stay calm and keep their distance if they encounter wildlife in residential areas. That advice gets harder to follow when the wildlife is already in the bedroom.
The service shared a video of the deer’s escape on social media Sunday evening.
