Remembering Silvia Marguerite Moss: 1927-2026
"Silvia Marguerite Moss, in her 99th year, has left the stage." Family share warm memories and details of a celebration of life to be held April 15, 2026.
IN REMEMBRANCE
Silvia Marguerite Moss, in her 99th year, has left the stage. My beloved mother-in-law, a force of nature, a phenomenal woman who always bid me farewell with “Don’t get into mischief,” with a twinkle in her eye that revealed she was a master of mischief, wisdom and mirth.
Adoring grandmother to Charlie and Elliott, inspiring feminist to her son/my beau, David, steadfast companion to Frances Cornett, as well as professor, CBC Exec, animal sanctuary founder, stage manager in England, world traveler, and so much more.
She lived a legacy of immense kindness, generosity, grace, resilience, advocacy, wicked wit, curiosity, wonder, faith, and a deep reverence for literature and inspiring conversations.
Born in 1927, she survived so many tragedies and heartbreaks, yet never wavered in her optimism, flair for adventure and open-minded love for all of life.
On April 10th, she was surrounded by many of us who adored her, with prayers and poetry, tenderness, laughter, tears, and yellow roses draped across her bed during her final bow like a stage after a masterful performance.
We know she will be welcomed with wide arms and a standing ovation by all those who’ve passed on before her that she loved immensely, including her brother, her best friend Harriet, and David’s incredible brother, Richard.
Sylvia was always a giver. She was a rare gem who knew how to hold space for others’ struggles, and also knew how to invite and entertain a whole audience of people with an astute sense of etiquette and charm!
Her influence in our lives is profound.
She simply always has been in a class of her own. Knowing her has been a Masterclass of how best to live the life we’ve been given - always with gratitude, a little sass, a humble dose of wit that breaks down walls, and boundless love.
Fare thee well, Sylvia Moss.
“The more I give to thee, the more I have,
For both are infinite.”
May you shine through infinity.
Funeral to be held Wednesday April 15th at St. John’s Anglican Church in Port Elgin. Visitation at 10am. Celebration of life at 11am.
