Remembering Lynn Bewley
Lynn (Evelyn) Bewley will be celebrated at a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery followed by a come and go memorial visitation at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home on July 24, 2026.

Lynn (Evelyn) Bewley has left this world after 98 amazing years, and the loving family that surrounds her is filled with grief and gratitude for the life she created and shared so generously.
Born in Lethbridge on February 10, 1928, Lynn was raised on the prairie and faced the challenges of a childhood marked by the dustbowl and the Great Depression. As a result, she was always making “something from nothing” and taking joy wherever she could find it. Her oil paintings, stained glass artwork, and beloved flower garden became the outlet for her creativity and love of the natural world.
Lynn was a staunch feminist. She was raised in a time where she was told that an education past grade 8 was a waste of time for a girl who should just stay and work on the farm until she got married.
But Lynn had dreams for herself, and moved from the family farm in Etzikom, Alberta to Medicine Hat where she worked as a housekeeper to put herself through St Theresa’s Catholic High School. Lynn was the only non-Catholic attending there, and despite her atheist convictions, she formed deep bonds of lasting friendship with the nuns who taught her.
Lynn went on to join the Air Force in 1951 and served as Military Police. While on leave in Toronto she met her husband, Bud (Clifton Arthur Bewley) and they married and raised two children – Dallas Gene and Barbara Leigh.
Bud was a horseman who worked with racing thoroughbreds, and this sparked a lifelong love of horses in Lynn, who raised a chestnut colt she called Rough Apache. She raced him for three years and then retired him from the track.
After the little family left Toronto to build a log home on 10 acres in Uxbridge in 1967, Lynn was able to surround herself with her passions – raising animals and growing gardens. They built a horse barn from cedar poles cut from the bush, and Lynn built pens to house chickens, ornamental pheasants, and all kinds of fancy birds.
Bud and Lynn retired and moved from Uxbridge to Owen Sound in 1988, where they happily made friends and spent time with family. Always up for a challenge, at the age of 65 Lynn decided she’d learn to ride her horse Apache. Lynn continued to care for Apache and had her last ride on him when she was 80.
Another great love of Lynn’s was her garden and all the song birds that visited it. She joined the Georgian Bay Garden Club and eventually became its president.
She enjoyed travelling back to visit her Alberta family, often driving by herself accompanied by her little poodle, Cheri. Lynn made her last solo trip across the country, driving a Smart-Car with the top down, at the age of 85.
She was predeceased by her parents Clara and Sydney Johnson, her husband Clifton (Bud) Bewley, her brother Leonard Johnson and his wife Loretta, sisters-in-law Dorothy Jones and Laura Johnson, her niece Donna Jones, her son Dallas Bewley, and great-granddaughter Kristy Oulette.
Lynn loved her family and friends fiercely, sharing her big heart and many gifts with us all in so many ways. She is survived by her brother Derek Johnson, daughter Leigh Greaves, son-in-law Frank Greaves, and daughter-in-law Connie Bewley.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly Fiegal (Glen), Cindy Desbiens (Eric), Parris Greaves (Jody), Tessa Snider (Rob), and Brianna Greaves (Jen), her great-grandchildren Derek, Kayla (Andrew), James, Mary, Rose, Sterling, and Porter, her great-great-grandchildren Kaycee, Keyera, and Kali, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lynn is remembered for her indomitable spirit that never shied from a challenge, and a tough exterior that belied a very tender heart.
A graveside service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 190 1st St. SW., Owen Sound, on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A come and go memorial visitation will follow at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
