Public Health Seeks Dog Owner After Biting Incident in Markdale
Grey Bruce Public Health is seeking the owner of a dog involved in a May 11 biting incident at Rotary Park in Markdale. Identifying the dog could help the victim avoid unnecessary rabies treatment.
Grey Bruce Public Health is asking for the public’s help in locating the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident that occurred on Sunday, May 11, at Rotary Park in Markdale, within the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
According to officials, the incident took place between 1 and 3 p.m., when a woman was approached and bitten by a dog that was unaccompanied and not wearing a collar.
The dog is described as having long grey fur and weighing approximately 60 to 70 pounds.
Public health staff are seeking to verify the dog’s vaccination status to rule out the risk of rabies.
If the animal can be confirmed to be healthy and up to date on its vaccinations, the bite victim may be able to avoid undergoing post-exposure rabies treatment, which can be invasive and costly.
Anyone with information about the dog or its owner is urged to contact Grey Bruce Public Health at 519-376-9420 ext. 1307.
Grey Bruce Public Health reminds residents that identifying animals involved in biting incidents is a critical step in ensuring public health and safety.
