Police Stop for Dirty License Plate in Dundalk Results in Several Charges
Driver was prohibited and showed signs of impairment; 36-yr old Ricky Moricz now faces several charges.
On February 8th, 2024, at 10:18 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on in the Township of Southgate.
The Grey Bruce OPP were conducting traffic enforcement on Moody Street in Dundalk. At 10:18 p.m., Police observed a vehicle with an obscured licence plate and the licence plate light was out. It was determined that the driver was prohibited under the criminal code.
While officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was issued a 3-day driver's license suspension for registering an Alert on the roadside Alcohol Screening Device (ASD).
A Ricky Moricz, a 36-year-old individual of Melancthon was charged with:
Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
Class G1 holder unaccompanied by qualified driver
Driving while under suspension
Drive with open container
Novice drive - B.A.C. above zero
The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 7, 2024.
Young, novice and commercial drivers are reminded that under Ontario's zero tolerance law, these driver classes cannot have any alcohol in their system.
Drivers are reminded that the OPP can issue an immediate roadside driver's license suspension to drivers who register a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) in the "Warn Range, which is between 0.05 and 0.079 (cannot be equal to or exceed 80 mg. of alcohol per 100 ml. of blood).
