Police Renew Appeal for Public's Assistance in Year-Old Missing Person Investigation
Saugeen Shores Police Service continues to search for information that may help locate 57-year-old Lijun S., who has been fishing at Denny's Dam on January 27, 2024.
The Saugeen Shores Police Service is renewing its call for public assistance in the case of a 57-year-old man identified only as Lijun S., who was reported missing by his family on January 28, 2024.
Police determined that Lijun had been fishing at Denny’s Dam in the Town of Southampton on January 27, 2024, the day before his disappearance. They revealed last year that a surge of river water and ice occurred while Lijun was believed to be fishing along the riverbank.
Lijun is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He speaks Mandarin. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing grey hip waders, a black winter jacket, and carrying fishing gear.
His vehicle was located at the scene, prompting extensive searches by air, ground, and water that spanned several months. The search efforts included assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and support from volunteer organizations.
In their most recent update, the police thanked the public and volunteers who dedicated their time and resources to searching shorelines and surrounding areas over the past year. Despite these efforts, Lijun has not yet been located, and the investigation remains active.
Saugeen Shores Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report anything that may assist in finding Lijun and bringing closure to his family. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-2500.
Police also reminded the public to exercise caution and mindfulness around open or frozen bodies of water, which can pose significant dangers, particularly during the winter months.
